BACKGROUND.
The level of poverty remained high in Tanzania based on 2007 estimates done
by National bureau of statistics , more than a third of households "live
below the basic needs poverty line" earning less than $1 a day, while 20%
of the total population "live below the food poverty line". with
one-third of the population considered poor. Poverty dropped only marginally
from 35.7 per cent in 2001 to 33.6 per cent in 2007 and the absolute number of
the poor has increased by 1.3 million during the same period as per the
Household Budget Survey 2007. This is in despite recording high rates of
economic growth over the years, averaging 7 per cent per annum since 2001. A
new Household Budget Survey is being undertaken in 2013. Data from http://www.tz.undp.org/content/tanzania/en/home/mdgoverview/Over the past few years, The National Strategy for Growth and Reduction o Poverty (MKUKUTA) in Tanzania has given high priority to eradicating extreme poverty and promoting broad-based growth. Achieving pro-poor growth has also been widely recognized by the World Bank as a critical strategy for accelerating progress toward its twin goals of eliminating extreme poverty at the global level by 2030 and boosting shared prosperity by fostering income growth among the bottom 40 percent every country. http://www.worldbank.org/tanzania
KNOW YAP.
Youth Against poverty (YAP) is a platform that brings together youth and talks on matters concerning the role of youth in fighting against poverty in Tanzania. Our intention is to create awareness to the targeted group and erase there mindset that they cant manage things without the government .We want to erase the dependency just like our late father MWALIMU JULIUS NYERERE talked on his philosophical ideas as he once said ‘Three enemies of Tanzania’s economy are POVERTY,IGNORANCE and DISEASES.
We as YAP our mission is to improve the mindset of young people and make them aware of poverty and fight against poverty. But also to build a good world which is free and out of poverty.
Objectives:
i)
Educating
youth about poverty and taking responsibility of their lives.
ii) To evaluate the government strategies
and policies concerning poverty.
iii) To change the mind-set of individuals
and work together in establishing means and ways on how to eradicate the problem.
iv) Organizing conferences where youth
can meet together sharing ideas but also meeting some influential people who
passed through a lot of challenges in life to get where they are.
v) To manifest individuals who can be
good leaders through provision of leadership skills which will also be taught.

positive ideas on self reliance and remove thinking of depending on the
government for everything.
